  • In 2009 there were approximately 4.8 MILLION private sector enterprises in the UK
  • These enterprises (companies) employ around 22.8 MILLION people
  • The combined annual turnover is a massive £3,200 billion !!!!
  • Small & medium size enterprises (SME's) account for 99.9% of all enterprises
  • They account for 59.8% of all private sector employment
  • They account for 49.0% of all private sector turnover
  • Of the 4.8 million enterprises, 3.6 million are SOLE TRADERS with no employees,
    which produce a turnover of £239,000 million
  • A further 1 million enterprises with less than 10 employees produce an additional turnover of £400,000 million
